I’m not sure if people have engagement parties anymore since your “engagement announcement” looks like “Jamie Laura is now engaged to Thomas Horton” via Facebook newsfeed. So everyone basically knows within seconds. In fact, most people need to hold off from putting the relationship status change on Facebook until they have at least had time to call their family and let them know. So why have a party to announce your engagement?
For us it is really not about announcing our engagement but celebrating it. I got to have a nice celebration with my closest girlfriends in Dallas when I was there last and we will get to celebrate with out of town family in September. But what about our family and friends here? Of course they have all given hugs and support and shared their excitement for us. But, how fun would it be to have a little shindig to celebrate with them?
Since we are having a long engagement, we wanted to have a little celebration to share with our close friends and family in Houston. So we narrowed down our options…. Mexican, Italian, Themed? Huh?
Mom wanted to plan a themed party… I am now picturing our parents in costumes or in funny hats…. Please, no! Next, we thought festive. Mexican food is always festive but can be a little casual. So finally, after my mom asked me what seemed like a million questions ( tall tables, flowers, balloons, piñatas?…love you mom J … ) we decided on Sambuca in downtown Houston. It is particular significance for Thomas and me and is one of our favorite places to celebrate or have a nice date night. In fact, we had already had plans for my whole family (yes that means Thomas too now) to celebrate Easter Brunch there. So, it was a natural choice.
We are keeping the guest list small since we will be celebrating with different groups at different times and this is mainly a celebration for our Houston relatives and friends but it is our first official celebration and party.
Now on to make invitations… I really like http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/
